Water Lung

I kick

I flail

I’m sinking

Against the current I fight

I never learned how to swim

I’m fighting for my life

They say that when your drowning

Cooler heads will prevail

It must be nice to float along

But if I float I fail

I’ve been in peaceful waters

But I could never trust a pool

Because despite how calm it seems

The exception never counters the rule

My story is written from the white waters

a waterfall is its conclusion

Unless you felt this current

You’re observations are a derision

I swallow too much water at times

You’d think that I was saved

Because when they pull me out

you hear them call my name

But once they shock me back to life

They throw me in a pool and walk away
